Art
Primary 6/7 gave talks on their Art projects today. They were to hand in a written presentation to Miss Oakley before the October break and then were to do their talks after the holidays. Many of the pupils spent a lot of time preparing these talks and I enjoyed listening to them.
After listening to so many presentations on artist I felt that we had to do some art ourselves. So maths went out the window (double maths tomorrow kids!) and we rolled up our sleeves. Matthew's presentation was on Jackson Pollock so we decided to create a mater piece in his style.
I hope you like our painting.

Gymnastics - Session 1

Primary 6/7 had their first gymnastics session today with Debbie. The class revised some of the basic jumping and landing techniques from last year. They were given the opportunity to try all the pieces of apparatus again and finished the lesson with trampolining.
Next week Debbie will concentrate on a few pieces of apparatus and the class will be given the opportunity to improve their skills.
I was very impressed with all the pupils today and I am really looking forward to seeing the children progress over the coming weeks.
Photos and video clips will follow soon.

The Rosa Parks Story

Primary 6/7 were asked to make up a short play about Rosa Parks. They were asked to act out the famous bus incident and reflex the attitudes of many white Americans of that time. The class worked in 2 groups and Rebecca and Matthew were asked to director the plays. They had great fun doing this and displayed a good understanding of the story.

Art Projects
Remember your art projects for Miss Oakley are due in on Thursday. You will be doing your class talk on your artist on the first Thursday and Friday after the October break.
The Centre of New Enlightenment

Today P6/7 visited 'The Centre of New Enlightenment' at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
The Centre of New Enlightenment is 'not an exhibition, it is an experience, an adventure and an education'.
The children were put into pairs and given a small computer each and a set of head-phones. The children were set loose around the museum and asked to find out information and complete various task given to them by their computer. The tasks could only be completed in pairs. Each pair had a different task so the pupils all discovered different things. The results of their finding were then calculated and displayed on a huge screen.
This was a fantastic trip and the pupils absolutely loved it. The pupils learned how to question, investigate and discover. A thoroughly worthwhile outing.
