Darts
I can use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division when solving problems, making best use of the mental strategies and written skills I have developed.

Primary 6/7 have been playing darts in maths to improve their mental calculations. On Friday we split the class into two teams. Unfortunately Mr Jewell's team was winning but we were saved by the bell. Don't worry we don't plan to adopt the smoking and drinking habits of the professional game (although jewellery is compulsory).

The Centre of New Enlightenment
- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
This morning P6/7 are at Kelvingrove taking part in a workshop called 'The Centre of New Enlightenment'. The pupils are armed with their own hand held computers and are roaming around the museum trying to find out whatever their computers are challenging them to do.

Train timetables
I can use and interpret electronic and paper-based timetables and schedules to plan events and activities, and make time calculations as part of my planning.

Primary 6/7 have been learning how to use the 24hr clock in maths. Today I set them a challenge. In pairs, and using the laptops, the pupils had to plan a daytrip to Edinburgh. They had to use public transport to get there as well as do something worthwhile in the city. The pupils had to find the correct train times as well as opening times for shows, museums...etc.
They pupils were asked to record their findings on a word processing document and email it to me.
The pupils had to use 24hr clock to read the train timetables as well as apply these skills to a real life situation.

Target Setting

In class today Primary 6/7 set themselves personal targets for this term. They were asked to set themselves two work related targets and one personal and social development target. Tomorrow I will review these targets with the pupils and also add two or three teacher set targets.
I look forward to seeing the progress made in these areas.

Library Visit

This morning P6/7 visited the library. They worked in two groups. The first group worked with Rebecca and were given the task of writing a story for younger children about African animals. The second group worked with Myra and used some of the computer resources in the library to find out information about South Africa.
