Christmas Art

Inspired by a range of stimuli, I can express and communicate my ideas, thoughts and feelings through activities within art and design.

Today P6/7 have been making Christmas decorations out of clay - good fun and very messy!

Functional Writing

I consider the impact that layout and presentation will have and can combine lettering, graphics and other features to engage my reader.

Primary 6/7 have been busy making a Gymnastics Manual for future classes to use before they do gymnastics. The class have broken down the skills that they learned at gymnastics and have clearly explained how to perform each move. They downloaded photos onto the computers and then imported them onto a word processing document. After this the typed out the break down of each move and changed the font and size accordingly. After this they printed and laminated their work to make it into a book.

School Lunches - Seating

In our school from tomorrow until the Christmas holidays, we are trying a new form of seating in our lunch hall. We are replacing class tables with social/vertical/family groupings which are mixed across all primary stages.

This is very popular with some children and not with others. We are trying this as research suggests that it aids healthy eating choices (see BBC website) and also encourages good behaviour.

We will evaluate this experiment in January.

Mrs Speirs

Fractions & Decimals

I... can apply my knowledge to compare and order the most commonly used fractions.

Five stations were set up in the class and the children were given 7 minutes to try to complete each challenge. There were two fraction domino games, an ordering fraction activity, an ordering picture fraction activity and an ordering decimal number activity. The children had to use their understanding of fractions and decimal numbers in order to complete the tasks.

Gymnastics Award

As I encounter new challenges and contexts for learning, I am encouraged and supported to demonstrate my ability to select, adapt and apply movement skills and strategies, creatively, accurately and with control.

Opportunities to carry out different activities and roles in a variety of settings have enabled me to identify my achievements, skills and areas for development.

Primary 6/7 have all successfully passed The Level 4 Proficiency Award in British Gymnastics. They were examined by coach Debbie and passes with flying colours. The class have worked exceedingly well during this term and have improved their skills greatly. As a reward for their excellence achievements the class will be having a fun session on Monday and an extra trampolining coaching from head coach, Lee.

Story Writing

I enjoy creating texts of my choice and I regularly select subject, purpose, format and resources to suit the needs of my audience.

The class were asked to write a story called, 'If I won the National Lottery'. They had to think what they would buy or do with all that money. We faked a Lottery in the class and Lyle won £13 Million! We also listened to a song called 'If ! had a $1,000,000' for some inspiration. The stories were fantastic.

Please listen to Mete reading his story.

Secret Santa

Dear Parents,

This year in P6/7 we are going to run a ‘Secret Santa’ scheme. Each child has chosen the name of another child in the class at random from a hat to buy a present for. The presents will be put under our class tree and given out on Monday 21st December in class.

Presents should cost a maximum of £3 and should be wrapped with the name of the recipient and ‘from P6/7’
This should be a bit of fun before Christmas and the children are really looking forward to doing it.
Remember to keep the name of the person you are buying for secret!!

The pupils will get a letter home about this next week.

Merry Christmas (in advance)

Mr A ;0)

Mod Roc Athletes

Through observing and recording from my experiences across the curriculum, I can create images and objects which show my awareness and recognition of detail.

Primary 6/7 have been making athletic sculptures out of Mod Roc in art and design, They had to make the basic shape out of wire and then cover it with wire mess to make it 3D and more realistic. After this they used Mod Roc (which is like the plaster you get when you break a bone) to cover the shape. This was very messy, and needless to say, great fun. They completed the sculptures by spray painting them with gold or silver paint.

This project was inspired by the fantastic shapes and moves that the class have been doing in gymnastics.

Can you guess what the figures are doing?

Pupil of the Week

Well done to Marc who has won Pupil of the Week for primary 6/7.

Parent's Night is on Wednesday the 25th November. I have sent home the appointment times with the pupils. I have emailed them the times also. I look forward to seeing you all next week.

Simplifying Fractions

I have investigated how a set of equivalent fractions can be created, understanding the meaning of simplest form...

Today Primary 6/7 continued working on simplifying fractions. We used the interactive whiteboard to help us and then continued with our textbook questions.

Maths - Fractions

Today Primary 6/7 were working on equivalent fractions. We were also looking at how to simplify fractions.

More Gymnastics

This week the class was working on bar work. In order to work the bars well it is important to do lots of stomach strengthening exercises. The class also played a game called 'Stick It' on the trampolines.

Writing Lesson

I enjoy creating texts of my choice and I regularly select subject, purpose, format and resources to suit the needs of my audience.

We had great fun in class today. The class was put into groups of three and they had to pick an object from the magic story box. Whatever object they pulled out had to be included in their story. Eventually every group had three objects. This made the stories very interesting and completely different from any other group.

Olivia

I had a little hat, a wig and a watering can.

Aimee

I had a racing helmet, a cowboy hat and a crown.

Declan

I had a walking stick, a policeman's helmet and a golden horse shoe.

Christopher

I had a purse, elf shoes and a golden lamp.

Mod Roc Athletes

In art today Primary 6/7 were making Mod Roc athletes. We had to make a figure out of wire and then cover it with wire mesh to make it 3D. This was very difficult to do. After this we started to cover our figures with Mod Roc. We hope to finish these by the end of the week.
