The pupils were asked to email me a short report on Rosa Parks for homework. Here is a selection of their work.
A long time ago in America, black people were segregated from white people. Rosa Parks was a black woman aged 42 who refused to get off a seat on a bus for a white woman. Soon the bus driver came and told her to get off the seat, but Rosa said, "No", because she'd been working all day and was tired. Then the bus driver called the police and they said she had to get off, but she still refused and Rosa was taken to jail and was fined. She was so influential in the Civil Rights Movement because she continued to oppose a law she thought was wrong and because of her actions black people decided that they did not want to use the buses and so started a widespread protest.

Rosa Parks was an ordinary black lady who was shopping one day when she wanted to go home. As she had no car she took the bus. Then a white person came onto the bus but it was full so the person told Rosa to get off her seat. Rosa said no, the bus driver stopped the bus and said (GET OFF THE SEAT). Rosa refused so the bus driver called the police and she was charged with refusing to give a white person her seat. Then all of the black people stated to walk but most of the white people had cars so the bus company were not getting any money. By Rosa refusing to give up her seat she drew attetion to what was happening to black people.

On the 1st of December 1955 Rosa Parks was arrested for ignoring the segregation rules on Montgomery buses by not giving up her seat for a white person. This act of defiance was influential in the Civil Rights Movement and inspired black people to fight for their rights. Rosa Parks actions sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott on the 5th of December 1955 lead by Dr Martin Luther King.
The boycott lasted 381 days until the 13th of November 1956 when the supreme court ruled that Montgomery's Segregation Laws were unconstitutional.

Rosa Parks was born on the fourth of Feb 1913 and died on the 24 Oct,2005.She worked along side with Matin Luther King. Rosa Parks was a black woman living in America and she was asked to give up her seat on a bus because a white woman wanted to sit down in her place. Rosa Parks would not give up her seat. She worked with other people to make back and white people equal in America. She lost her job becuase of her beliefs but she got medals in her later life, when Rosa Parks and others such as Martin Lyther King made white and black people equal in America.

Rosa Parks went on a bus in the 1960's and at that time if you were black you couldn't sit at the front,so she went to the back. Then the bus began to fill up. All the white people's places were full and so were the blacks. Then a white person came in and asked for Rosa's seat. At that time it was the law to give her seat to the white person but she decided not to give her seat away. The driver came out and she still wouldn't get up. Then they phoned the police who also tried to get her of her seat but she still refused. Eventually she got off her seat and she was fined money for not cooperating. Then more black people decided not to move off their seats and then hardly any black people went on the bus anymore and the bus companies lost money. This caused the Civil Rights Movement.

I thought that Jack and Catherine's writng was really great and I got a good idea of what it must have been like on the bus when Rosa Parks made her protest. All the children's writing was of a high standard.
I was really happy to see how this woman's story has got through to the children.
